Life With Woody 10 inspirational quotes than can improve yourself

“Life With Woody” 10 inspirational quotes than can improve yourself

Cincinnati, Ohio

It might take a little coffee or probably a few rounds of beer or any other booze you could get your hands on when it comes to relaxing after a hard day’s work. Well, yeah I’m guilty about that one as well, unless I’m caught dead wearing a lampshade over my head after a few rounds of vodka… half-naked! Okay, bad example and I apologize to everyone reading this after getting nightmares about me in that state of drunken stupor.

Just don’t ask how it happened, please.

But what’s really interesting is that how do people go through the usual part of life when faced with vein-popping stress? I mean, the new age thing like Zen or yoga is one of the good things and it actually works. Is there room for the intellectual side of people who can actually smell the roses-in-a-can while on the move? It kind of had me thinking that there really must be something in this ‘mind-over-matter’ thing.

Humor is indeed the best medicine there is whenever you are. I mean anyone can pay good money to listen to a comedian just to make you wet your pants after laughing so hard. Despite of what’s been happening, and to those who has gone though the ordeal, it’s better to just laugh while facing the troubles with a clear mind than anger with a clouded vision. One of my favorite celebrities of all time may have to be Woody Allen. Now this is one guy who gives you the in-your-face bluntness that he pulls out with gusto, even without even trying. You can talk just about anything with a man, and he’s bound to mock the subject and you’ll end up laughing rather than being upset about it.

Woody Allen has this to say:

1. “Money is better than poverty, if only for financial reasons.” It sounds good to me, I mean the practicality of all things does involve money but it doesn’t have to take an arm and a leg to get it.

2. “I believe there is something out there watching us. Unfortunately, it’s the government.” ‘Nuff said.

3. “There are worse things in life than death. Have you ever spent an evening with an insurance salesman?” This happens to be one of the classic ones. I mean the issue about life’s little problems isn’t all that bad, until ‘he’ shows up.

Sure, relationships can get complicated, or does have its complications that probably any author about relationships is bound to discover it soon. We follow what our heart desires, unless you’re talking about the heart as in the heart that pump blood throughout your body.

4. “Love is the answer, but while you’re waiting for the answer, sex raises some pretty interesting questions.” And if you want more, just keep on asking!

5. “A fast word about oral contraception. I asked a girl to go to bed with me, she said ‘no’.” It sounds, ‘practical’, I think.

And when it comes to everyday life, he really knows how to make the best out of every possible scenario, and it doesn’t involve a lawsuit if he strikes a nerve.

6. “Basically my wife was immature. I’d be at home in the bath and she’d come in and sink my boats.” I never had a boat in my bathtub before. Just staring at it while soaking in hot water makes me seasick already.

7. “I am not afraid of death, I just don’t want to be there when it happens.” If it rains, it pours.

8. “I am thankful for laughter, except when milk comes out of my nose.” It could get worse when you’re guzzling on beer… or mouthwash, and it happened to me once!

9. “If you want to make God laugh, tell him about your plans.” At least he doesn’t smite us with lightning, and I’m thankful for that.

And despite of what may happen to all of us in the next ten, twenty, or even thirty years, I guess we all have to see things in a different kind of light and not just perspective. I can’t seem to imagine life without any piece of wisdom that could guide us. Whether we’re religious or not, it takes more courage to accept your fears and learn how to deal with them is all that matters when it comes to even just getting along.

And to sum things up, here is the last nugget of wisdom to go by… however, whenever, and wherever we may be.

10. “The talent for being happy is appreciating and liking what you have, instead of what you don’t have.”

Ciao!

Say It On A Shirt

Student Music Festival 2017
Source: Flickr

Throughout human history people have always found ways to express their ideas to others. Handbills and flyers have covered city walls since the advent of the printing press. Graffiti has been around since Roman times.

In the 20th century, a new form of self expression emerged: the t-shirt. Originally introduced by the Navy in 1913, it took widespread use by soldiers in World War II to introduce the crew neck t-shirt to the public. The 1950’s were also important in the history of the t-shirt, being worn as outerwear by such stars as Marlin Brando and James Dean. In the 1960’s the t-shirt began to be used as a palette for expression. The first corporate advertising on a t-shirt was a can of Budwiser beer. There’s even a phrase for the ubiquitous nature of t-shirts as expression: “Been there. Done that. Got the T-shirt”

T-shirts can be used to express political views or show musical tastes, or lack thereof. Someone wearing a John Deere t-shirt is sending a very different message from the person in the t-shirt with a character from Japanese animation. And what business doesn’t have their logo available on a shirt? People use shirts to tell others about which sports teams they like, a favorite movie or book, who their favorite NASCAR driver is, or to stop looking at their breasts. T-shirts are seen that commemorate any possible event; birthdays, weddings, (and divorces), vacations, summer camps, family reunions, the possibilities are endless.

The technology for custom t-shirt expression has never been more abundant. Kiosks in malls with full-color photo transfers, airbrush artists, online designers for custom screen printed work, they are all easily accessible and affordably priced. Whatever you want to say, there are multitudes of ways to say it on a t-shirt for everyone to see.

Recipe: Risotto with Shrimp Eggplant

Risotto with Shrimp Eggplant

Premium Lager
Source: Flickr

INGREDIENTS:

7 tbl Olive oil
1 x Shallot, minced
2 cup Pearl barley
8 cup Vegetable stock
3 x Japanese eggplant
10 lrg shrimp, peeled cut 4 piec
1/4 cup Grated pecorino cheese

PREPARATION:

* In a large saucepan, heat 2 tablespoons oil over medium-high heat. Add shallot and cook, stirring, until translucent. Add barley; stir to coat with the oil. Reduce heat to medium. Continue cooking barley, stirring occasionally, for 2-3 minutes; take care not to let it brown. While barley is cooking, bring vegetable stock to a boil. Add vegetable stock to barley, a cup at time. Cook, stirring frequently, until liquid is almost absorbed before adding more liquid. Keep adding liquid, stirring frequently until barley pearls are al dente, about 45 minutes. Meanwhile, cut eggplant into 1/2-inch cubes. Heat 4 tablespoons of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Saute eggplant, stirring frequently, until soft, about 12 minutes. Set aside. Using skillet in which eggplant was cooked, add remaining tablespoon of oil. Saute shrimp until pink. When barley is done, stir in eggplant and shrimp. Add grated pecorino cheese. Serve.
* Odette Fada, Rex Il Restaurante, Los Angeles Fada’s barley risotto is easy to make. It’s a great way to offer the luxury of shellfish. Because the shrimp is cut into pieces, you only a half-pound of it to make risotto for 6-8 people. Despite the shrimp, this dish is predominantly grain. It’s high in complex carbohydrates and fiber, and low in fat. But it’s so exciting that one hesitates to label it with the stigma of “healthy eating. ” Best of all, here’s a dish that fits the proverbial champagne taste on a beer budget; in total, ingredients for this risotto cost about $10. Add a salad and a cheese course and you can feed a small dinner party for about $5 a head.

Is Your Diet Giving You One Big Headache?

DSC_8717
Source: Flickr

Are you running for the medicine cabinet as soon as you feel the slight pang of a headache coming on?
I think we all do. There is a way we can be more proactive and decrease the amount of headaches we get simply by looking at our diet.

Research shows that some headaches, primarily the severe migraine type, can be triggered by what we eat. Experts suggest keeping a headache diary. Look for patterns to see which foods or beverages consistently cause headaches. Once you’ve identified a potential trigger, cut it out of your diet and see if the result is fewer headaches.

Here’s some common head-tension culprits to keep in mind:

Tyramine
Formed from the breakdown of protein as it ages, tyramine is found in red wine, overripe bananas, beer, ale, nuts, seeds, soy, chocolate, pickled foods, and some aged cheeses.
Caffeine
Over two cups of coffee a day means increased blood flow to the brain.
Alcohol
Alcohol can trigger a headache or cause dehydration and lead to a hangover headache.
MSG
The increased sodium intake MSG may result in a hangover-type or migraine headache.
Tannins
Usually associated with red wine, tannins are also found in apple juice, black-berries, coffee, tea, chocolate, and carob.
Nitrites
This food additive, found in processed meats such as hot dogs and lunch meat, can increase blood flow to the brain and cause a migraine.
Ice cream
This dessert and other very cold foods can irritate a nerve in the back of the throat and bring on “brain freeze,” which can trigger a headache.

If the diary is too tedious for you, at least try to lower consumption on the above items and see if you don’t notice a change in the number of headaches you experience. Always remember to drink lots of water throughout the day to fend off unwanted head tension.

Viansa Winery Reaches Out to Indy Racing Crowd

GS - Cookies and Beer 2017-96
Source: Flickr

If horse racing is the sport of kings, then car racing could conceivably be dubbed the sport of the average Joe.

Traditionally, events like the Indianapolis 500 are accustomed to selling more beer and hot dogs than Starbucks coffee and veggie burgers, but times are changing and so is the motor sporting crowd.

According to a research study conducted by Nielsen Media Research for the Indianapolis Racing League – the governing body of the open-wheel racing series that counts the Indy 500 as its centerpiece – the average racing fan is 39 years old, college-educated and has a median household income of $81,000 or more. This indicates that the face of motor sports fans in general, and specifically the Indy Car series, may be changing.

To this end, the IRL is catering to its growing fan base by providing not only traditional fare, such as hamburgers and sodas, but also treating fans to a fine-dining experience by offering more upscale cuisine.

Through gourmet “kitchens on wheels,” or mobile restaurants as they are more commonly called, chefs prepare lavish meals for drivers, crew members, team guests, and of course fans, at select tracks across the U.S. The most recent racetrack to accommodate this change was the Miami-Dade Motor Speedway earlier this year.

Supporting this trend are companies like Viansa Winery and Marketplace. The winery, based in Sonoma, Calif., is attempting to appeal to motor sports’ wine fans with its sponsorship of the Vision Racing Team. Members of the Tuscan Club, Viansa’s wine and food club, have been invited to attend the racing events as guests of the company.

Vision Racing was formed early last year when IRL founder Tony George purchased the assets of Kelley Racing from Tom Kelley. Grey’s Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey is a co-owner of the team.

Family Reunion Tips

NC Bottle Brown (7 of 12)
Source: Flickr

Family reunions can be very stressful and by the time you
have it all organized and its done with, you might realize
you had no fun at all because you spent the entire time
trying to make everyone else happy.

Sure you will have great pictures and everyone will say
What a great reunion! but you should be a PART of the
reunion as well as just the organizer.

Here are some simple tips to help make sure all the work
doesnt fall on your shoulders.

The first thing you should ever do is remember to stay
ahead of the game. If you are having the reunion outdoors,
have a backup plan just in case it rains.

If you are barbecuing for everyone, be sure to have extra
everything. Coals, gas, plates, cups, food, and drinks.
Even if nobody likes your barbecued salmon, you will have
plenty for yourself later on.

Make sure you have people to help you clean also. Even a
small family can annihilate a park with trash.

Don’t organize the entire thing by yourself. Many people do
this and it can really ruin the experience for them. If
your spouse wants nothing to do with it, get a sibling or
parent to help you.

If your sons and daughters have their own families,
delegate some responsibility to them. You did make them
after all.

Dont expect your family reunion to be absolutely perfect.
When you get a big group of people together, there is bound
to be an issue or two.

If you let everyone drink beer all day, by evening, odds
are you will have to scrape at least one family member off
the ground and get them home.

People are unpredictable so as long as you remember that,
when something weird happens, you can laugh and try to
resolve it easily.
