Picnicking Ideas

Vale of Clwyd CAMRA Pub of the Year Presentations Blue Bell, Halkyn 2016

What better way to spend a hot summer day than to go picnicking in the park? There’s so much to enjoy; food, drinks, games, sports, activities, campfires and good company – just don’t forget the bug spray! If you’ve ever had a hard time deciding what to bring on a picnic, below are several lists that give ideas for what to pack on a picnic, no matter who you are going with. So grab your friends, family and loved ones and get going!

With the kids: Kids love hotdogs and marshmallows. I don’t think I’ve ever met a kid who doesn’t enjoy roasting (and burning) these items over a camp fire. So if you are going on a picnic with kids bring hotdogs and marshmallows and you’re sure to please. Also bring pop and juice, chips, plastic cutlery and dishes. As for games, kids will like Frisbee, soccer, skipping rope, or really any game. Kids aren’t that hard to please, just as long as you have food, beverages, and several games you can keep them entertained for hours.

Romantic: Picnicking with a partner can be very romantic if done right. Bring along a nice blanket to lay out on the grass, plastic wine glasses, and a nice plate you can both share. As for food, it is ideal to bring finger foods that you can feed to each other. Try crackers, cheese, olives, antipasto, cold cuts, and chocolate dipped strawberries for dessert. If you are a drinker it’s always nice to bring along a bottle of wine or champagne, but remember don’t drink too much unless you have a ride home!

Friends: A lot of people enjoy going down to the park to hang out with friends (I know I do), because it can be a blast! And all you need is a group of friends, a case of beer, hot dogs and hamburgers, chips, pop, plastic cutlery and dishes and a football, frisbee or hackysac to play with. It’s also fun to bring along a boom box if anyone has one.

Office: A lot of office parties involve going out for lunch, or ordering food in, but it’s a great idea to schedule these times for going on a picnic. You can ask every one to bring something and that way you won’t be spending too much money yourself. Things you can ask people to bring could include, hot dogs, hamburgers, buns, steaks, chips, pop, juice, potato salad, green salad, fruit, veggie sticks, nuts, and desserts. This can be a lot more fun than a regular office party too because people can play sports and do activities instead of just sitting around a table.

So as you can see, planning a picnic is easy! You can be as creative as you want with what you bring, but the basics are often the best. So this summer, instead of wasting money at restaurants, gather up some friends and go build a fire!

What You Should Know About a Yeast Infection

Grafs
Source: Flickr

Yeast Infection is a fungal infection of any of the Candida species, of which Candida albicans is probably the most common.

Yeast organisms are always present in all people, but are usually prevented from “overgrowth” by naturally occurring microorganisms.

At least three quarters of all women will experience candidiasis at some point in their lives. The Candida albicans organism is found in the vaginas of almost all women and normally causes no problems.

However, when it gets out of balance with the other “normal flora”, such as lactobacilli, which can also be harmed by using douches, an overgrowth and symptoms can result. The use of oral contraceptives and some antibiotics, and diabetes mellitus can lead to an increased incidence in yeast infections.

The most common symptoms are itching and irritation of the vagina and/or vulva, and a whitish or whitish-gray discharge that may have a “yeasty” smell like beer or baking bread. It may resemble cottage cheese.

Many women mistake the symptoms of the more common bacterial vaginosis for a yeast infection. In a 2002 study published in the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, only 33 percent of women who were self treating for a yeast infection actually had a yeast infection. Instead they had either bacterial vaginosis or a mixed-type infection. Currently, bacterial vaginosis can only be diagnosed during a doctor’s visit.

Candidiasis is alleged to be successfully treated either with home remedies or, in the case of a more severe infection, with either over the counter or prescription antifungal medications. Home remedies for candidiasis include the consumption or direct application of yogurt, which contains lactobacillus, “friendly” bacteria that kill yeast, acidophilus tablets or salves, and even lightly crushed cloves of garlic, which yield allicin, an antifungal. Boric acid has also been used to treat yeast infections when gelcaps are filled with boric acid powder and two are inserted at bedtime for three to four nights. Another remedy is to douche with a weak mix of “Baking” soda in water (1 teaspoon to 1 cup). Baking soda is alkaline and changes the vagina’s acidity temporarily to a higher alkaline environment in which candida cannot survive.

While home remedies can offer relief in minor cases of infection, seeking medical attention can be necessary because the extent of the infection sometimes cannot be judged well by the sufferer. Prescription medication is often the only solution to an infection; the antifungal drugs commonly used to treat candidiasis are topical clotrimazole, topical nystatin, fluconazole, topical ketoconazole. In severe infections, generally in hospitalized patients, amphotericin B, caspofungin, or voriconazole may be used. These medications are not effective against the more common bacterial vaginosis.

Finnish Saunas a Tradition Continues

Willkommen in Aldersbach, Bier in Bayern 2016; Landkreis Passau, Niederbayern, Bavaria, Germany
Source: Flickr

If there is one country that loves to take a relaxing sauna, it is probably the country of Finland. Finnish claims that in their country is the home of the original sauna experience. Finnish saunas are not only used by the locals of Finland to relax and unwind or trim down their bodies. Sauna for them is a prime part of their culture. They think that sauna is a necessity not a luxury. That is why in every household in Finland you can see at least one or two saunas installed inside their home or built in their outdoor area.

For you to be able to experience an authentic sauna experience, you must try any of the Finnish saunas in Finland. Since it is a part of their culture, they even have several customs that people do not usually do in other places offering sauna. They first start it off by setting the sauna heater to eighty to one hundred degree Celsius. Afterwards, water is splashed on the hot stones located at the top of the sauna stove known as kiuas. This produces a nice warm steam which they call loyly, making the room even hotter.

Some Finnish saunas use boughs of Finnish vasta, which is made up of silver birch. It is a set of leaves having a nice fragrant that are being used in saunas in Finland to beat their selves gently. The Finnish vasta or vihta are said to have calming effects on the muscles. Moreover, if you have a lot of mosquito bites or other insect bites, this will surely calm the effects in your skin. After having a relaxing time inside the warm sauna room, it is a custom in Finland that you jump right into the nearest swimming pool, lake or sea to cool down your body. But during the winter, people they go rolling in the snow or even taking a dip in the avanto (a hole cut within the ice) instead. They end the whole sauna session by eating a local Finnish sausage or by drinking beer at the dressing room.

There are also some Finnish saunas that are using a small house not just a room. This is called savusauna, otherwise known as smoke sauna. The small house used does not have a chimney. Huge amount of woods are burned in a large stove and allowing the smoke fill the whole room. Once the temperature is already hot enough, they splash water to the wood in order to kill the fire and ventilate the smoke produced. The remaining heat in the stove will now be enough for the whole sauna session. However, there are now lesser people Finland using this type of sauna since it requires so much time, effort, as well as skills just only for heating the whole area.

And because of its gained popularity all over the world, Finnish saunas are now becoming one of the major tourist attractions in Finland, especially during their winter season.

Recognition As Part Of Performance Management

Willkommen in Aldersbach, Bier in Bayern 2016; Landkreis Passau, Niederbayern, Bavaria, Germany
Source: Flickr

Performance Management is a system developed out of the best practice of top performing organizations to provide managers with a structured approach to the key retention criteria. Simplistically, most people will feel motivated and will want to stay in their job if their manager:
pays attention to their work provides them with a job to match their skills, knowledge and experience gives them opportunities to grow and develop judges their performance objectively

Most Performance Management processes contain critical opportunities for recognition.

Appraisals

Traditionally, the annual appraisal is the only meeting during the year when an average or better worker will meet their boss to discuss performance. People with poor performance can and do have a regular audience with their manager; sometimes on a weekly basis. Your appraisal form is “the” document that is held on file as a record of how good, bad or indifferent you might have been. For some, this may be the only time in the year that they receive plaudits and even these may be guarded comments because of the close link in everyone’s mind between appraisal and pay rise despite repeated denials. Too much praise might raise expectations of a large pay increase. Poor performers, however, frequently receive far more than their fair share of management attention throughout the year.

If paying attention to our employees is one of the greatest motivators, when did we decide that high performers need less motivation than poor performers? Of course they don’t! Many of the top performing companies in the world have introduced regular coaching and mentoring sessions to supplement the appraisal system and to give all employees a regular, sometimes fortnightly, opportunity to talk about their job, their performance against their objectives, their motivation and their aspirations.

Coaching

Often you can see situations where managers act as spectators. Their behavior plus the words they use along with their body language would not be out of place at a soccer or baseball match. They would be sitting in the stands eating a hot dog, throwing down a beer and belting out criticism at the players (their staff) on the field. There is almost no connection between the manager and the staff other than they just happen to be sitting in the same building.

This image is used to point out the profound difference between the ‘manager as coach’ and the ‘manager as spectator’. A coach works individually with players, helping them to overcome setbacks and obstacles to progress forward. They know and understand how their players respond to different types of motivation and how their family life and health impact their performance.

The majority of coaching is done on a very frequent basis. You simply don’t wait for the big match to deliver your advice to the team in the way the ‘manager as spectator’ does. You work very closely with everyone in the team, understanding the strengths and weaknesses of your defense and your strikers before they are tested under pressure.

Glyconutrients – Can I get them in my food?

Selfy? #kingsday
Source: Flickr

Glyconutrients are broken down into EIGHT simple sugars. These simple sugars are found in our diets. If you eat the correct fruits and vegetables you can avoid taking a glyconutrient supplement. However, you may find sticking to a diet that contains the correct types of fruits and vegetables to receive the proper amount of all EIGHT glyconutrients (sugars) may be difficult.

If this is the case (as it is for most people), please choose a high quality glyconutrient supplement. There is only one company that markets a patented glyconutrient supplement that contains all eight glyconutrients. You can find this product here.

Glyconutrients

KEYS FOOD(s) THAT CONTAIN GLYCONUTRIENTS:

1) Fucose is prevanlent in medicinal mushrooms, seaweeds (kelp and wakame) and beer yeast.

2) Galactose is very common in our diets. Dairy Products, Fruits (Apples, Apricots, Bananas, Blackberries, Cherries, Cranberries, Currants, Dates, Grapes, Kiwi, Mangos, Oranges, Nectarines, Peaches, Pears, Pineapples, Plums, Prunes, Raspberries, Rhubarb, Strawberries, Passionfruit, Echinacea, Boswellia, Fenugreek, Chestnuts, Broccoli, Brussels Sprouts, Avocado, Cabbage, Carrots, Cauliflower, Celery, Cucumber, Potatoes, Eggplant, Tomatoes, Leeks, Asparagus, Lettuce, Green Beans, Mushrooms (not buttons), Beetroot, Onions, Parsnips, Green Peas, Pumpkins, Spinach.

3) Glucose is also very common; but it is more concentrated in the following fruits and vegetables. Honey, Grapes, Bananas, Cherries, Strawberries, Mangoes, Aloe Vera Gel, Licorice Herb, Sarsaparilla, Hawthorn, Garlic, Kelp, and Echinacea.

4) Mannose is not easily found in food source. One of the main sources is Aloe Vera Gel. Other sources include Fenugreek, Black or Red Currants, Gooseberries, Green Beans, Cabbage, Eggplant, Tomatoes, Turnips, Shiitake Mushrooms, and Kelp.

5) N-acetylgalactosamine is NOT consumed in the average diet. It is found in Bovine and Shark cartilages and red algae

6) N-acetylglucosamine is most often found as Glucosamine Sulfate, a dietary supplement used to treat arthritis.

7) N-acetylneuraminic acid (sialic acid) is found in whey protein isolate or concentrate – not the powder (the concentrate has a higher amount than the isolate).

8) Xylose is located in Guava, Pears, Blackberries, Loganberries, Raspberries, Aloe Vera Gel, Kelp, Echinacea, Boswellia, Psyllium, Broccoli, Spinach, Eggplant, Peas, Green Beans, Okra, Cabbage, and Corn.

As you can see from the description above it is nearly IMPOSSIBLE to ingest the correct types of fruits and vegetables to provide your body with sufficient quantities of all EIGHT glyconutrients. Instead of buying separate supplements that contain only ONE of the eight essential glyconutrients, you can simply purchase a comprehensive glyconutrient product that contains all eight glyconutrients.

Currently, there is only one company in the world that manufactures a 100% pure patented glyconutrients product. Others sell glyconutrients; but none meet the rigourous standards of this patented product. You can view more information about this product at

Glyconutrients

Before you take any supplemnts, DO YOUR RESEARCH. Make sure you understand what you are taking and why you are taking it. Lastly, after you make the decision to take a specific supplement, please make sure you research the manufacturer thoroughly. Not all supplements are created equally.

How To Make Wine Food Pairing More Interesting

DSC00284
Source: Flickr

White wine pairing with fish, or was it chicken?
Red wine normally goes best with steak, or is it pork? What should I serve with ribs? How does lamb even fall into this category? Sometimes pairing food and wine can be a complicated job.

Have you ever been left with the task of creating an important dinner party, and had no idea what wine to serve with the food? Have you ever felt lost while standing at your local wine dealer knowing that this dinner has to be perfect, but not having the background to select the perfect wine? Don’t fret, as you join the ranks of those who have come before you, take a deep breath and read on to help you understand complimentary food and wine pairings.

The Basics:

To begin and understand food and wine pairings, look no further than your own senses. Naturally, your tongue picks up the overall tastes: it tells you what is sweet, salty, bitter or acidic. Although, it is your nose that will help you to determine whether you like the wine or not. Some wines are more fruity and others seem to taste more “earthy”, and all of them can have you react differently dependent solely upon your sense of taste and smell. The reason this is important, is due to the fact that there can be a stark and unpleasant contrast when combining uncomplimentary flavors and smells.

Pairing Food And Wine:

A general rule of thumb in food and wine pairings is that red goes with red. What this usually means is that steak, ribs and even pork are best complimented by a red or heavier wine like cabernet, port or a pinot noir. Even though the pinot noir is a little lighter in color, it is a heavier wine and can compliment a dish like steak or pork quite well. While many people would serve beer with ribs, you can dress up that table by serving a similarly heavier wine or with a chilled white zinfandel.

When, however, you are serving lighter type meats, a lighter wine is normally the best compliment for your guests’ palates. So, when the plan for the evening is oysters, poultry, or cream sauces on pasta, then reach for the lighter wines: try serving a chardonnay with oysters, chenin blanc with poultry and those lighter pastas with sauvignon blanc. There are other possible combinations you can try, but these offer a good place to start.

Picking that perfect food and wine pairing for that dinner party should not be a difficult task. Just remember that it is going to be a palate thing dependent upon your sense of smell and taste for success. When you become more confident with your choices, feel free to experiment, because there are no food and wine pairing police to criticize you. Until then, you may confidently use the tried and true combinations given here to relax and enjoy preparing that party.

Guanajuato: Mexican Free Zones

Rock-n-Roll-Wine-Live-Life-Amplified-Party-Deck-Snoop-Dogg-Cypress-Hill-by-Fred-Morledge-PhotoFM-2017-046
Source: Flickr

Years ago when my wife and I pulled up roots in America and moved to Guanajuato, Mexico, I began telling everyone who would listen that San Miguel de Allende was well on its way to Guanajuato.
Mexicans as well as American Expats shook their heads and clicked their tongues at me. No one believed the expatriate debacle that has overtaken San Miguel de Allende could ever, in a million years, come to Guanajuato.

Well…it’s coming.

No! It’s here.

My recent article, “Guanajuato: The Death of Heritage,” spelled out one aspect of the gentrification of Guanajuato. The Mega Store, an anchor store in an indoor mall, and its deathblow to the local Mom-and-Pop Shops was the theme of that column. What ruined colonial Mexico all over this country is now here in Guanajuato to have its dubious way with the city’s ancient heritage.

Another issue coming at the speed of light is the steep increase in real estate prices. Landlords, Mexican and gringo alike, have seen the writing on the wall and are charging prices for rentals and real estate that were unheard of just four years ago. They are now asking, and getting, the prices that you expect to see in San Miguel de Allende and the west coast resort cities. It is tragic!

The next step that is officially here: excluding Mexicans from their own city. This has been going on in San Miguel de Allende now for a while with the “Mexican Free Zones—Gringos only.” That has now arrived in Guanajuato.

In doing some research for my new book, Can I Live and Work in Mexico?, I ran across an ad for a rental property that said “Americans Only.” They are actually beginning, in this lovely and very Mexican town, to exclude Mexicans from renting property in their own town and country! The owners of this particular property are excluding Mexicans from renting the property even if they can afford it. I guess the gringos are beginning the “Mexican-Free Zone” sooner than expected in Guanajuato.

None of this is shocking to me. I saw it coming years ago. What I think makes me madder than anything are those who dismissed me as “hysterical” or “he exaggerates too much,” or whatever. They poo-poo’ed me, patted me on the head, and asked me if I wanted another beer when I would try to sound the warning.

They were wrong.

I was right!

What I said would happen is happening right now. The gringos, the ones with lots and lots of money and who will never learn two words of Spanish to string together, are moving here and with them come all the joys of rich gringo expatriation.

If you want to see what the joyous place Guanajuato will be like in a short time, just visit San Miguel de Allende and stay about a month. Then you will know Guanajuato’s destiny.

Sad. So, very, very sad!

Traveling By Train For Your Vacations

Rock-n-Roll-Wine-Live-Life-Amplified-Party-Deck-Snoop-Dogg-Cypress-Hill-by-Fred-Morledge-PhotoFM-2017-120
Source: Flickr

A different and charming way of seeing the countryside, during vacations, that almost seems a part of an era long past is by traveling by train. During the early years of the century a journey by train travel was the usual way of seeing the countryside, but in today’s jet age very few people travel by train like they did before. It is only those, still lucky enough to ride a train, who can appreciate the beauty of the landscape.

Where else could you have the luxury of driving 60 miles per hour in a luxury coach car with comfortable seats, cold drink in hand and a pillow to rest your head, and people to pamper you silly? You could watch cows in the fields as travel, while having drinks served to your taste. Most major cities in the US are provided train service by Amtrak. The Amtrak passenger travels in the utmost comfort. You can add more cities and regions to your list of “been there, seen that”, places like Salt Lake City, Chicago, Seattle, Boston, Sacramento, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Nashville, San Francisco, Kansas City, Denver, St. Louis, New Orleans, and Dallas.

European locations are invariably better connected by the railway system. Most people in Europe travel by buying a Euro rail pass, or Brit rail while traveling through UK. By buying a Euro rail pass you are guaranteed unlimited train travel throughout Europe. College kids having a Euro rail pass pack a backpack with few basics, and hit the track. You could take a train to Paris, spend the day visit the Eiffel tower apart from other tourist spots, and catch a train in the evening, sleep in peace only to depart when you are done with traveling. If you are on the right train, at the right time, you could be in the South of France, even San Rafael, St. Tropez or Nice. Sight seeing here could be as simple as jumping off the train, claiming a patch on the beach and jumping into the Mediterranean Sea for a swim!

Once you are done, flash your Euro rail pass and hop onto the train again to Amsterdam, visiting Holland’s biggest and greatest city. Having lived it up in Amsterdam, board the train again heading towards Germany, possible down south towards Bavaria. Drop by Munich and feast on its wonderful heritage. Peep into the Olympic Village; and hope that you are lucky to visit during the renowned Bavarian beer fest, so you can have a blast.

A train journey offers a relaxing and unique experience, be it in Europe or America, like no other transport can even compare with. A train is as luxurious as your home, with delicious food at your service from the dining car, friendly people for company, a variety of cultures to learn, to top it all you are being chauffeur-driven. A train journey could truly be an experience by itself.

Loisaba Lodge Is The Perfect Kenya Safari Lodge

Choices
Source: Flickr

Loisaba Lodge is situated at the edge of an escarpment overlooking the Laikipia Plateau, the idyllic place to spend at least three days of your safari holiday in Kenya.

Loisaba is a 61,000 acre privately owned ranch on the edge of Kenya’s Northern Territories.

One of the reasons it is a perfect place to visit on any in Kenya Safari is that most of the land is untamed African bush, and it has an incredibly diverse amount of game. As the land is privately owned there aren’t any game park rules to conform to, which means the safari visitor can get really close to wildlife in ways that would otherwise be impossible compared to the restrictions Game Parks tend to impose on visitors.

Loisaba Lodge has seven ensuite cottages each with their own veranda. It is centred on the old colonial home where the dining room, bar and a comfortable lounge are situated. The lodge also has a pool, a tennis court, petanque, and a superb spa. Unlike most other lodges Loisaba has almost everything you need to enjoy your holiday, and not just the basic comforts of a safari camp in Kenya.

So why is Loisaba the perfect Kenya Safari Lodge for your In Kenya Safari?

It’s a lovely lodge with a fantastic atmosphere to relax in, being all inclusive/soft drinks, beer, and wines..

The game viewing is almost limitless, and the guides are amongst the best Safari Guides in Kenya

Apart from traditional and almost limitless game viewing, game drives, bush walks with an armed guide, and without forgetting the facilities at the Lodge itself, there are a large number of activities available.

These include horse riding excursions, Camel trekking along the river, Quad biking, visits to the working cattle ranch, and also the local community village.

Also a remarkable feature at Loisaba are the Koija & Kiboko Starbeds (ensuite) out on the ranch for guests wishing to spend a night under the stars. Kiboko Starbeds are 20 minutes from the lodge and over look the dam; Koija Starbeds are 30 minutes away from the lodge and overlook the Ewaso Nyiro River. Each star bed is dramatically designed, on a handcrafted wooden raised platform, and partially covered with a thatched roof.

One of Loisaba’s plusses is that it is only accessible by chartered light aircraft, and its inaccessibility means you will not see other safari vehicles on your game drives. This is another reason that stays of less than three days are not recommended.

Loisaba is home to elephant, lion, leopard, that can roam free and unhurried by people, without all the problems of the 21st century. There are the rarer species that thrive in this environment including gerenuk, Grevy’s zebra, and the reticulated giraffe. In addition the birdlife is many and varied.

This is really an undiscovered paradise, to do as you want, the perfect in Kenya Safari lodge.

Beat The Heat In Australia!

Hard to Read

“Fine beaches, perfect weather, good people, and a more secure traveling experience”

If you are looking for all these conveniences and excitement, let Australia handle that for you. Perk up your traveling experience in the sixth largest country in the world, twice as large as Europe but less crowded.

Make a choice from a wide variety 7000 fantastic beaches and enjoy the luscious greens of flora of approximately 25000 species and diverse but unique fauna as evidenced by the Kangaroo.

Australians are fun-loving people and are very sociable. You can learn so much about their culture because of their very straightforward attitude towards guests and strangers.

Language Discrepancies

English maybe the widely spoken language in Australia but there are utterances which makes them unique to the rest of the English-speaking world and terminologies better left unsaid.

Some of the most common are Cobber = Buddy, Fairdinkum = Really and Cold One = Beer. Phrases such as righto = okay/alright and rag up = dress warmly are also common.

The word “root” may have evolved to mean “sex” in Australia so it is better to keep from saying that word as long as you could. Same thing applies to “fanny” which came to mean a female’s private part.

Weather

Among the 7 continents, Australia probably has the weirdest climate. Unlike the US, the months of December to February are the hottest and most humid dates of the year.

Keep in mind that Australia’s climate is just the exact opposite with that of the Northern Hemisphere

Southern Australia was recorded to having the harshest climate during the summer season and keeping it out of your itinerary is advisable.

Depending on where you are headed, there are must-haves and clothing you will need to prepare to make sure you will not be caught off-guard for any circumstances that are expected along the way.

Sunglasses and sunscreens and light clothing are important in Australia due to hot climate in some regions, but keeping a jacket during the cold night is a must especially in the southern temperate region. Nice pair of boots in the bushes is practically essential.

Transportation

Public vehicles such taxis are commonplace in Australia. Most taxis charge “flagfall” and a surcharge for distant travels.

“Keep left” is the rule of driving here. It can be quite confusing at times but being careful will surely keeps you away from trouble.

Tipping

Just the exact opposite of the west. Tipping may not be a no-no but it is not generally practice here but you can do so in some special occasions.

There are simply 1001 ways to enjoy the beauty of Australia and the good thing is, you can add more to rev up your rewarding traveling experience. Traveling to a distant place poses a lot of challenges but surely it is satisfying and worth the pennies! So enjoy and don’t forget to have a cold one with a cobber!

Recipe: old buffalo breath chili

Olmense Zoo 2017
Source: Flickr

Old Buffalo Breath Chili
1 (5 pound) chuck roast, at least 3 inches thick
10 to 11 garlic cloves, crushed
Salt to taste
Chili powder
1/4 cup olive oil
About 1 to 2 cup beef broth
Juice of 1 Mexican lime
2 teaspoons ground dried mild red chile,
such as ancho or New Mexican
2 teaspoons ground dried hot red chile,
such as cayenne or chile de arbol
1 tablespoon cumin seeds, toasted and ground
2 teaspoons Mexican oregano
Chiles pequíns, to taste
Masa Harina®, as needed

Two or three hours before you plan to begin making the chili, rub the chuck roast well with a mash made from two to three of the garlic cloves and salt. Sprinkle the meat with the chili powder to lightly coat it. Loosely cover it with plastic, and set it aside.

Light enough hardwood charcoal to sear the meat on an outdoor grill, preferably one with a cover. At the same time, soak a few handfuls of mesquite chips in water. When the coals are covered with gray ash, spread them out evenly, and scatter the damp mesquite chips on top. Then immediately set the meat over the smoke, about an inch from the coals. Cover the grill, and adjust the dampers to maintain a slow, steady heat. Let the meat sear for about 12 minutes (this process is meant to flavor, not cook, the meat), and turn it over to sear the other side for the same amount of time.

Remove the meat from the heat, saving any juices on its surface, and transfer it to the refrigerator. Let it cool thoroughly, about 1 hour.

When the meat has cooled, trim away any surface fat or cartilage. With a sharp knife, cube the meat into the smallest pieces you have patience for, saving all the juices. Heat the olive oil in a large, heavy Dutch oven over moderate heat. Mix in the remaining garlic, and sauté it until it turns translucent. Stir in the meat and all reserved meat juices, adding just enough beef broth to cover. Pour in the lime juice, and sprinkle in the remaining seasonings, stirring and tasting as you do. Crumble in a few whole chiles pequíns to bring the heat up to taste. Turn the heat down as low as possible. Long cooking toughens, not tenderizes, if the chili is allowed to boil. Every half hour or so, stir the chili and taste for seasoning, adjusting as you wish. After the first hour, thicken the chili as you like by adding the Masa Harina a teaspoon at a time. The chili should be ready to eat in 3 hours, although it will benefit from a night’s aging in the refrigerator.

Serve the chili steaming hot in large, heavy bowls with an ample supply of soda crackers and a side of beans, but not much else except maybe hot black coffee, iced tea or beer.

Plan Your Return Before You Go

Balter Beerworks
Source: Flickr

Return Transportation

You should confirm your return reservation at least twice, and at least 72 hours before your scheduled departure. Whenever possible, obtain a written confirmation. If you confirm your return reservation by phone, record the time, day, and the name of the agent who took your call. If your name does not appear on the reservations list, you have no recourse and may find yourself stranded.

Departure Tax

Some countries levy an airport departure tax on travelers, which can be as high as $50. Please ask the airline or a travel agent about this tax. Make certain to have enough money at the end of your trip so that you will be able to get on the plane.

Immigration and Customs

If a passport was required for your trip, have it ready when you go through Immigration and Customs. If you took other documents with you, such as an International Certificate of Vaccination, a medical letter, or a Customs certificate of registration for foreign-made personal articles, have them ready, also. Have your receipts handy, in case you need to support your customs declaration. When returning to the United States by car from Mexico or Canada, have your certificate of vehicle registration available. It is a good idea to pack your baggage in a way to make inspection easier. For example, pack the articles you acquired abroad separately, if possible.
Articles acquired abroad and brought back with you are subject to duty and Internal Revenue tax.
U.S. Customs currently allows each U.S. citizen to bring back $400 worth of merchandise duty free, provided the traveler has been outside the United States for at least 48 hours, has not already used this exemption within the preceding 30 day period, and provided the traveler can present the purchases upon his or her arrival at the port of entry. The next $1,000 worth of items brought back for personal use or gifts are subject to duty at a flat 10% rate. (Your duty-free exemption may include 100 cigars, 200 cigarettes, and one liter of wine, beer or liquor. ) Make sure you check for the latest information as this changes periodically.

There are two groups of destinations from which the duty-free exemption is higher. These are a group of 24 countries and dependencies in the Caribbean and Central America from which the exemption is $600, and a group of U.S. insular possessions (the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, and Guam), from which the exemption is $1,200.

Ensure you declare all that you purchased or received as gifts overseas. If you are selected to have your baggage checked upon arrival, cooperate with the U.S. Customs agent and, unless you have something to hide, this should only take a few minutes. If you are caught with undeclared items, be prepared to pay stiff penalties.

Plan ahead – save time and money.

Have They Improved The Masters Golf Championship?

The Blues Riders 15/04/17
Source: Flickr

Bobby Lopez, past touring professional and swing guru say’s, “I Don’t Think So.”

Bobby Lopez goes on to explain, “I can’t tell you how disappointed I am in the powers to be at The Masters Golf Championship. They’ve ruined my favorite golf tournament. I’m quite certain that Bobby Jones is turning in his grave!”

He sights the Master’s decision to lengthen their golf course to the point that 90% of the field doesn’t have a prayer in competing for the opening major championship of the 2006 season. Everyone concerned feels that Master’s officials certainly should have concern for their championship being won by a score like 22 under par. Compared to the US Open, known for it’s difficult conditions, making even par a winner score again, the Masters at Augusta National with it’s wide rolling fairways and light rough became outdated in today’s long ball hitting environment.

Lopez, claims, “The same long hitting lineup is hitting it long at the US Open too but it’s not just the length that’s causing the higher scores. It’s the super fast greens and tight fairways with considerable rough that makes it very difficult for any player to reach the green in regulations once in deep rough’s grasp.”

At the Player’s Championship, we watched the best PGA touring professionals in the business agonize over a par three of only 123 yards. You have to question what made the Masters committee decide that only a 240-yard par three could tame today’s long hitting bullies?

Bobby Lopez says, “Tighten up the golf course I say, don’t lengthen it. Add a vicious intimidating rough that would make even the longest hitters reach for their 1 iron or a three wood to not risk hitting their drive in the rough and lose a stroke, (or maybe even your ball) to a deep club swallowing hazard.”

This adjustment Not only would have the scores go up but at the same time you would bring more players into contention and in Bobby’s estimation bring out the best ball strikers not just the long knockers.

You can think of it like NASCAR. Doesn’t this sport do the same thing? Look at how successful NASCAR is! They control the speed of the cars so that more competitors are bunched up at the finish to create a more exciting race.

Maybe the powers to be at The Masters, with all their glory, high income power brokers, members of the powerful business clicks, don’t have as much sense as a bunch of rednecks with a beer in their hand watching a Chevy go around in a circle. Could it be true? The numbers don’t lie NASCAR has the largest audience in the sports business and golf is losing popularity and participation.

Fife Tourist Information & Travel Guide

20151101-DSC_2696
Source: Flickr

Wherever you are from, we wish you a warm welcome from Citylocal Fife, ‘the business directory in Fife’ based near the Royal Burgh and City of Dunfermline and covering all the ancient Kingdom.

WELCOME to the Kingdom of Fife!

If you are visiting Fife by road from the North or South, then we apologise for taking your money for the privilege of crossing the bridge(s); and rest assured we wouldn’t do that if Dunfermline were still the Capital of Scotland instead of the young upstart, Edinburgh. It does however indicate that the Scottish Parliament places more value on Fife than Edinburgh.

Dunfermline is a city with many easily accessible and interesting attractions, from its ancient 12th-century Abbey to the restored 15th-century Abbot House where you can enjoy a snack and drink in its cosy café, or you can choose to explore the bustling High Street and once you have finished your retail therapy you can relax and absorb the atmosphere in ‘Oolahs’, a modern and well appointed café in the High Street.

Andrew Carnegie the world famous industrialist and philanthropist was born in Dunfermline in 1835, and as you explore the City you will find his ‘ghost’ is everywhere, no more so than in his family home, a humble weaver’s cottage which been preserved and extended to include a museum of his life.

Only a few minutes drive from Dunfermline, you will find several villages worth visiting, Culross (another Royal Burgh) to the West, is in my view the most interesting, and when you walk along the narrow cobbled streets you can imagine yourself back in the 16th or 17th century. The village is kept in first class order, and the pan-tiled houses with their crow-step gables have been sympathetically restored. There is plenty to see and do for both adults and children, and if time is short I would suggest that your priority is The Palace (built between 1597 and 1611) which was the home of Sir George Bruce, an enterprising merchant and coal baron. Its original interiors feature some magnificent painted woodwork and ceilings, and it has mediaeval gardens to the rear. The Palace has its own first class tea rooms, and ‘The Red Lion‘, a local pub, has an excellent restaurant with a varied and very reasonably priced menu.

Limekilns and Charlestown although not on the same scale as Culross are also both picturesque coastal villages, with their own character and history, and are well worthy of a visit, especially in the summer months. There is a good selection of beer and meals available at the ‘Ship Inn’ in Limekilns, and ‘The Elgin Hotel’ in Charleston is also worth a visit.
In our next edition we will cover the towns of Aberdour, Burntisland, Inverkeithing Kinghorn and Kirkcaldy as we move up towards the East Neuk on the way to St Andrews.

How To Get Rid Of Alcohol And Cigarette Breath To Improve Business And Life

Cocktailparty 2017
Source: Flickr

There was a time 40 years ago and more when fashionable people were usually portrayed with a cigarette in one hand and a drink in the other. In those days, people didn’t mind if you had tobacco or alcohol on your breath.

Then the health risks of drinking and smoking became better known. As individuals, communities, and government organizations moved to limit smoking and drinking, smoke and alcohol odors became less desirable and often abhorrent.

These days it’s not unusual to see an anti-smoking commercial make its point by showing how spouses and dates are repulsed by the smell of a cigarette. Additionally, continually tightening drunk driving laws and the work of activist groups have sometimes turned anyone with beer on their breath into a suspect.

The modern movement toward better health and safety is certainly good and warranted. But what about the millions of North Americans who like to smoke or enjoy a drink once in a while? As independent adults, they don’t endanger others or live irresponsibly.

So why should these “regular” Americans and Canadians have to worry about the smell of smoke or alcohol on their breath? The solution can be challenging.

Fortunately, new advancements in the laboratory have created a highly effective breath freshener that effectively eliminates the smell of tobacco and smoke on your breath. More on that in a moment.

In the past you could pop a few breath mints that did little more than try to cover up the alcohol or smoke on your breath. Anyone who came in contact with you immediately knew you had been smoking or drinking and had tried to mask it with mints. That in itself could lead to embarrassment.

The resulting problems ranged from a spouse who didn’t want to share a kiss at the end of the evening to a boss who mistakenly thought you drank one too many over lunch. Even though you had acted responsibly and legally, you could be punished just because of the smell of your breath.

The new breath freshener uses a specially developed combination of natural ingredients, the active of which is chlorophyll. This plant-derived chemical effectively removes odors. Mind you, it doesn’t attempt to cover up the smell like a mint does — this new freshener ELIMINATES the odor at its source.

Moreover, this new breed of breath lozenges lets you eat an onion-filled hamburger, chow down on Mexican food, or enjoy spicy foods for lunch — all while quickly eliminating any odor on your breath before returning to work.

So don’t feel like you have to limit your enjoyable activities simply because what others may smell on your breath. Give yourself the big break you deserve and make use of this new development in breath freshening lozenges.

Getting to Know More About the Newest Insect Control Innovation: Making Your Tailgate Party Insect-Free

Mural
Source: Flickr

Football equals Party, no other sport is so related to a party. Superbowl weekend attracts no American like any other sport event can. So its no wonder that many people don’t care if they don’t even get inside the stadium, having a tailgate party would be enough. A TV showing the action could spark the emotions in people just like watching the game itself.

When you say tailgate party the first thing that comes to mind is football and beer. But anyone could do that. To make a party that everyone remembers is to make a party that’s a cut above the rest. The first thing to consider is having a party that’s extremely comfortable. That includes having a party that’s insect free.

Insects can be a nuisance when your having fun, its not enough that they’re irritating, they have to get into the food.

There’s no other party spoiler as devastating as the invasion of insects. They get into the food and ruin everything else

This is a party buster that can ruin a heck of a good time.

There are certain measures that a good tailgate host can do to make a party error and pest free.

One of the most reliable insect control innovations is having the electronic insect zapper. They emit a sound and light that’s attuned to the insects and diverts its attention to the device and away from the party.

Usually, this is battery powered and emits a light that’s virtually extremely attractive to insects. Once they get near, they get zapped with a small electrical discharge that eliminates the insects and pests.

There are also some innovative scientific insect control gadgets that rely on sound waves that deflect the incoming wave of ants. Ants can be the bane of any outdoor party. Just leave a dish uncovered and you could find a swarm of ants covering it.

Fight fire with fire. Innovative small spurting canisters emit controlled fire to eliminate pests and insects. Take out your mini tank and extinguish the insects and pests that can eventually ruin your party. Just do this before your guests arrive.

But most importantly, keep your food properly enclosed. Closing it eliminates the escape of scent, which attracts the insects and pests. If they don’t know there’s a treat for them, they wont bother you. Prevention is still the best control over pests and insects.

The next time you plan a party or picnic, make use of odor-free, no leakage food containers. Also keep that insect at a distance and away from the food. Don’t let your parties ruined by a bunch of insects.

The internet is still your best source for the newest insect control innovation.

A Sivory Punta Cana Dominican Republic Review

08042017LI_0240
Source: Flickr

The Sivory Punta Cana Reviews almost caused us to cancel our vacation We chose The Sivory Punta Cana Dominica Republic, despite the bad reviews because there were also some good reviews, and in the end we think it justified its boast that it was one of the best small luxury resorts in the Caribbean, one of the real Caribbean Hideaways.

The road to the Sivory Punta Cana is pretty bumpy and the taxi fare isn’t cheap, somewhere between $60-$80 depending on whether you use a taxi or a van, although having said that it was really only the last few miles

We stayed in a deluxe junior suite with a plunge pool, which extremely well laid out and furnished. It had all the usual smellies in what was an awesome bathroom. It had a giant tub, a two person shower, which I had always wanted to try!!

The hotel grounds were beautifully landscaped and maintained, and there was a superb spa and gym. We liked the pool, and the pool area, but feel it necessary to point out one or two things that stops the Sivory Punta Cana from being one of the best small luxury resorts in the Caribbean.

Firstly the food isn’t that fantastic, although there are items that aren’t on the menu that they will make, but only if you ask. The menu is limited, and the items like lobster are in fact extremely good, but very pricey.

This may be a good reason for taking the all inclusive option, because not only can you have the better items, your drinks are of course also included. Add to this the fact that room service is free on all inclusive.

It is important to understand that if you are paying for individual items, there is a 26% tax to add to the price. On a $12 pina colada, this makes it $16!!

Whilst the minibar is free, and it contains beer coke and water, they won’t replenish it unless you ask, and you are wasting your time asking the housekeeping staff..

Check your final bill carefully, because we had items added we didn’t have. For instance our transport didn’t appear when we went home, and we had to pay a taxi, b ut it was already an item on my bill!!

Finally if you like lots of action then The Sivory Punta Cana isn’t the place for you. There is nothing to do here, it’s miles from anywhere, and it has no nightclub, so just relax and unwind.

We thankfully ignored the The Sivory Punta Cana reviews, we had a great time, the staff were wonderful, it is a great Caribbean hideaway, and with a bit of care it could be one of the leading small luxury resorts in the Caribbean.

Things To Do In Belgium

JillCakeSmash-318-1
Source: Flickr

Even though Belgium is smaller than many other countries you can visit, it is filled with activities, restaurants, and much more. Getting from place to another is easy for travellers in Belgium because the towns are close together. There are trains and buses that will take you where you want to go. Whether it is Antwerp to see one of the largest collections of diamonds, or to Ghent to visit botanical gardens and visit castles. Brussels, the capital of Belgium is another fascinating city you should visit when you are travelling.

Many people visit Belgium for the food as much as for the countries two diverse cultures. In Belgium, people either speak Dutch or French depending on which part of Belgium you want to visit. Food and drink come in all forms. If you enjoy tasting home brewed beer, then Belgium is a great place to start. There are many breweries and pubs that you can visit during your stay. Chocolate is also a tourist attraction for many people. There are also many restaurants, cafés, and small inns where you will find fresh seafood, potato dishes, and much more.

Some of the more popular tourist attractions include: The Atomium, which is a life size model of an atom. Featured in the 1958 Science Expo, you can walk around inside the atom. It contains restaurants and beautiful views of Brussels. Another attraction is the The Grand Place, which is a town square that is home to markets, people, and history. The Manneken Pis, which is a famous statue of a small boy peeing is another attraction that people enjoy seeing.

These attractions are very easy to get to and are open during the day and in the evening. You should make a list of attractions that you want to see before taking your trip. You will be able to modify the list later if you need to.

Belgium also has a lot of interesting architecture dating back to the Middle Ages. You will be able to visit castles, small villages and towns that have a lot of history. Visit popular town centers, halls, and museums that pay homage to artists and other creative people. Belgium is home to many who have contributed to art, music, and literature.

While in Belgium, you will be able to take day trips to London and other cities. Staying in Belgium is less expensive than staying in other cities, so you will be saving money while being able to see more of Europe. People who visit Belgium are not looking for thrills, they are looking to relax and enjoy the people they meet in small towns along the way. If you want to go on vacation to relax in a slow paced atmosphere, then a trip to Belgium is one vacation you should look into.

Khon Kaen – the Gateway to Isaan

Khon Kaen – the Gateway to Isaan

DSC01395
Source: Flickr

Khon Kaen is a good mix of old and new. You can get KFC and Pizza or you can eat noodles and rice from street vendors. Software and DVDs are available at the mall or you can shop at the open markets. Small guest houses, intermediate hotels and a 5-star accommodation are available.

Nightlife can be found – but don’t expect it be comparable to Pattaya or Bangkok. There are a few expat bars near the Sofitel Hotel and a few Thai clubs scattered throughout the city.

Transportation around the city is easy as the Baht Buses are color-coded. Baht buses are just pick-up truck with seats in the back and cost about 25 cents for a ride. The have set routes and maps are available that display the routes. You just need to figure out where you want to go and find the correct color and hop on.

Day time activities for me were shopping and sightseeing. I spent lots of time visiting some of the most beautiful temples in all of Asia. One in particular is located in the heart of the city; right along side the city’s lake (Buun Kaen Nakorn). The temple (Wat Nong Wang Muang) is 9 stories tall and each floor has a mini-museum with artifacts from ancient Thailand. Music classes were going on and one of the Buddhist monks gave us a blessing.

I visited other temples in and around Khon Kaen and one was about 1000 stairs to the top to see a beautiful, pure white Buddha called Pu Don Fai. It was a hike, but definitely worth the walk.

For lovers of Thai food, there is an abundance of restaurants throughout the city. Many of the restaurants are around Lake Buun with excellent Thai and Western food at very reasonable prices. A typical night out with 3 or 4 dishes, a couple of Singha beers and the total tab would be about $12. Delicious food in open air restaurants with a view of the lake or one of the rivers in the city made for some very relaxing evenings.

I spent one day fishing at a small lake. Bait, tackle and a comfortable chair cost all of 200 Baht (about 6 dollars) for the day. There was also a restaurant that served up some good food and cold beer. I didn’t catch any fish, but had a very relaxing day. I also went out to King Cobra village to see the snake show. A good show with no admission fee. Sat in the bleachers and watched the 1/2 hour show and gave 100 Baht when they passed the hat.

All in all, a very relaxing 3 1/2 week vacation and I look forward to my return trip next year.

The reasons you should visit and stay at Lewa Wilderness Trails as part of your Kenya Safari Holiday are many.

The situation of Wilderness Trails in the wildlife rich eastern corner of the Lewa Downs Conservancy is one of the most obvious, as wildlife viewing is almost the whole point of being on safari!!

Wilderness Trails has been entertaining guests in some luxury for the past thirty years. The Lodge sleeps 16 people in eight beautifully decorated cottages with fireplaces and verandas, and it is the home of Will and Emma Craig, who are wonderful hosts.

In addition there is a refreshing saltwater pool, and a clay tennis court with racquets and balls supplied. There is a stable full of horses for guests to ride.

Guests can relax by the fire in Will and Emma’s cosy sitting room, and feel totally at home, and then communal eating at a large dining room table, makes meal times more like a banquet. Food and drink is included on this all inclusive ranch, and this means full board, wine and beer, plus all game drives and other activities.

The food is a joy with home raised livestock, natural spring water, and a five acre organic garden as the resource for the very skilled chefs to create their masterpieces.

When it comes to safari activities at Lewa Wilderness Trails, there is a totally professional guiding team to lead guests out every day, but only after customising the game drive to the needs of the guests. As a result the guests see more, and also learn a great deal about flora, fauna, animal behaviour, and importantly conservation. The history of the Lewa Conservancy is explained in detail because of its importance to threatened species.

If you want to as a guest you can even go jogging with a Masai warrior, or take a camel ride, and something everyone should do, is to visit orphaned animals to see the Conservancy work at first hand

Guests can also go on Bush walks with a professional tracker, using a Game Blind, visiting lewa’s ancient archaeological site, and also visiting a maasai cultural boma, where you will get an insight into their rich local traditions.

There are other excursions which cost extra including an air tour of Lewa Conservancy and Mt. Kenya, including trout fishing on a high altitude lake, and a five day walking tour of Lewa and the nearby Il Ngwesi.

Pamper Your Hair to Help Them Grow Faster

Phoenix
Source: Flickr

Short hair is old-fashioned. Thick and long hair is now in vogue. In the prevailing scenario, everyone has one question on their mind i.e. How to make hair grow faster? Healthy hair requires an optimal delivery of oxygen to breathe and penetrate. Adequate supply of nutrients from the circulatory system to the hair follicle is required for hair to grow faster. Hair if deprived of natural vitamins, proteins, amino acids and other nutrients may lack fullness, strength and luster thus hurdling the route to hair growth.

Studies conducted earlier have stated that majority of the people are deficient in nutritional balance because of their busy lifestyle and unhealthy eating habits. In order to keep pace with faster hair growth, a nutritional diet is mandatory. Increase the intake of green leafy vegetables in your diet. Drink plenty of water. This improves blood circulation to the scalp and hence helps hair grow faster.

What is also worth noting is that if the word can be split by the removal of the suffix (take the “ible” away from terrible and you have terror or “able” away from honorable to leave honor) then the start of word can be used in Spanish as well.
The words may be spelled the same in both languages and have the same normal ( normal is an English/Spanish word) meaning they are pronounced differently. A guide on how to pronounce Spanish words can be found in later articles.

Save Money And Get Rich Faster

#beer #pub #blackandwhite #b&w
Source: Flickr

I just finished a Venti Latte at Starbucks, my fifth this week. As I enjoyed my coffee and thought about my next “save money grow rich” article, it hit me like a ton of bricks that my coffee could be the subject of my article. I started doing the math on the latte in my hand; Three dollars and forty cents multiplied by five times a week multiplied by fifty two weeks. That’s eight hundred and forty dollars I’m spending a year on fancy coffee! If I saved that money each year and invested with five percent interest, which is pretty easy to get, I could have sixty thousand dollars in thirty years. I’m spending sixty thousand dollars on a cup of coffee. I’m not even accounting for inflation which is going to make that latte cost over eight dollars in the last eight to ten years of that thirty year period. At eight percent interest it would be one hundred and ten thousand dollars. Yikes!

What little things are you spending your money on? You might not drink fancy coffee, but I’ll assure you that there are other things you’re spending your money on that can be cut from your budget. That money can be saved, grown, and used to become rich or at least retire comfortably. How much do you spend on bottled water, cigarettes, beer, and lottery tickets? You don’t have to give up all of your favorite vices…, I mean luxury items. Life is pretty boring if all you do is save every penny, but it is a good idea to take an inventory of what you are spending, what you can give up, and what it is worth to you in future dollars.

Track your daily expenses for a week. Make a list of each of the expenses and separate them into the items that are absolutely necessary, like gas, and the items that are not necessary, like the coffee.

Here are some other areas that you can cut back and save:

– Eating out. Only eat out occasionally and take your lunch to work.
– The mid afternoon candy bar. Hey, it’s good for your health too.
– Pre-packed convenience foods.
– Carry over credit card interest. Pay your credit card bill off monthly.
– Extra cable channels.

You’ll be amazing how fast you can come up with two hundred and fifty dollars a month that can be saved. Using the savings calculator at www.rich.fqte.com/savings-estimator.htm you can see that two hundred and fifty dollars saved monthly for thirty years adds up to a lot of money. Time to ditch the latte, save money, and get rich faster.

Are There Any Good Restaurants On Walking Street?

Miller High Life
Source: Flickr

There are a bunch of great places to eat that will suit every budget.
You can choose from local street vendors or you can splurge on a fantastic seafood dinner.

The street vendors are mostly located just off of Walking Street down the small lanes or sois. They sell everything from bar-b-que on a stick to rice and noodle dishes. Prices are very cheap and you can get a meal or a snack for les than 2 dollars.

If you want Thai food in a nicer setting, there are many restaurants up and down the street. You can get western or Thai food at reasonable prices.

Some of the bars also offer food or provide menus that you can easily order from. You can order any item on the menu and have your full course meal while enjoying your favorite adult beverage.

If you are in the mood for seafood, there are 3 or 4 restaurants that have your favorite fish, lobster or crab on ice or still swimming around. Your meal will be excellent and cost about 25% of what you would pay at home. And the view of Pattaya Bay is magnificent. King Seafood is my favorite.

If seafood isn’t your favorite, you can always get Italian. Don Joe’s is right on Walking Street and overlooks the bay. You can get pizza, pasta or lasagna in a great location with superb service. Many of the bars located near Don Joe’s can provide a menu and will let you eat in the bar while you have a cold beer.

Another favorite of mine are the kebab sandwiches that some of the vendors sell. You will see chicken, pork or lamb on a vertical spit and you can get a sandwich with all the trimmings for about 50 Baht – or $1.50 US. The meat will be trimmed and put into pita bread and then you can add cucumbers, tomatoes, and onions. Catsup and other sauces are also available. Chicken kebabs are my favorite and the girls in the bars will be happy to grab one for you.

Probably the best part of Walking Street is that you can get food any time of day or night. Whether eating local style at one of the many street vendors, or going for the crab or lobster at King Seafood it is entirely up to you. You can even get a burger and fries if you want. And dessert is available too – you can get an Italian ice or some fresh fruit.

Walking Street is a fun place to go to for the bars and the girls but it is also a super place to get some excellent food.

Bachelor Party Shirts For The Party And Souvenirs Later

DSC_0073
Source: Flickr

If you are taking your buddy out on the night before his wedding, consider getting him one of the many Bachelor party shirts available today. These shirts let everyone know that he’s a “dead man walking.” They may even get him a couple of rounds of drinks from men who have been there themselves. The great thing is that there is a wide variety of bachelor party shirts available.

Bachelor party shirts are generally t-shirts with phases associated with impending doom. For instance, one shirt says “Wanted: Free Shots and Lap Dances for Groom’s Last Night Out.”

Another gives a “checklist” for all of the things the groom must accomplish during his bachelor party. The shirt includes items such as “Dance with 2 women at the same time,” “Buy an ugly girl a drink” and “Get a girl’s phone number.”

Another bachelor party’s shirts also features a checklist. But this one isn’t things he is supposed to cross off in one night. It’s the road he’s going down. It starts with “Lose my freedom” and “Hand over my balls” and continues to “gain weight” and “Lose hair.” It concludes with “Add to list forever.”

Some bachelor party shirts are simple rhymes like “Tying the knot, buy me a shot,” “Buy me a beer, the wedding is near,” or “Last fling before the ring.”

Others have fun plays on words. One features the dictionary definition of Bach-e-lor Par-ty (n): 1. Final Fling before the (suffer)Ring. Another says “Department of Corrections Inmate: Life Sentence – Marriage Without Parole.”

If you are having a bachelor party that doesn’t feature a drunken orgy, there are shirts for that too. For instance, a paint ball t-shirt says “You have 20 seconds bachelor to put this on and run” and features a target. If the party involves golfing, a nice white t-shirt with a simple label “groom” might be appropriate.

But it’s not just the groom that can get the bachelor party shirts. The organizer gets a shirt that says “Best Man…In So Many Ways.” Others in the party can get shirts that say “Bachelor Support Crew” or “Groom’s Posse.”

There are also “Father of the Bride” Bachelor Party Shirts. If this is the case, the party probably shouldn’t get out of hand!

Shirts can be custom made as well. The can feature the groom’s name or the location where the party took place. These might become souvenirs long after the event is over and the groom is married. When the event is over, the attendees may be handed “I survived Bobby’s Bachelor Party” as favors.

The Advantages and Disadvantages of Armed Bar Stools

After the weekend
Source: Flickr

Bar stools comes in many shapes and sizes. They can be bought with or without arms, seatbacks or any adjustable features, seats that swivel or remain stationary. There are so many materials that stools can be made from, the choice is so unbelievably wide. You can have wooden bar stools, aluminium bar stools, wrought iron bar stools, stainless steel bar stools and the list goes on and on. Some of the bar stools on the market are purely for show purpose’s and are only meant to amplify the décor of the surroundings and do not present any serious applications to industry or home.

There are the other practical differences when deciding on what barstools to purchase, such as choosing bar stools with arms or without. If you look beyond your own personal desires and you focus on where and how your bar stool is to be used, then deciding on arms or no arms becomes a much easier task. Just think of it from several angles, are the stools going at a high table where food is being served or just at the bar, if the stools are around a high table where food is being served then the arm rests would more than likely get in the way.

However, if your barstools will be in an open area where space isn’t an issue such as a bar, living room or study, then the bar stools with arms may be a better choice to consider. When deciding on the bar stool you want to buy, consider if your customers or family will them comfortable. If you can see people using your bar stools in this way, having arms is a choice worth considering. It’s always handy to have a place to rest your arm with either having a chat over a beer or a cup of coffee or simply doing a cross word.

One negative point to using barstools with arms is that they tend to restrict any movement compared to stools without arms. Although the bar stools with swivel seating effectively eliminates this concern. However, most barstools with arms have stationary seats and this can be a really annoying thing if you are in company in a bar, restaurant or at home and you are finding it difficult to keep up with the conversation because of having to move about so much.

If you’re stuck on which style to buy – with arms or without – it’s a good idea to let these practical considerations determine your choice. If you don’t see any significant reason to get barstools with arms, then don’t. You might even save your self a few coins in the process.

The Garage: A Man’s Best Friend

Out from the Shadow
Source: Flickr

If a woman’s place is in the kitchen, what is the man’s place in the home?
If a woman loves to work with her hands and create beautiful meals for her family, where does a man like to work and keep busy? For some men, it is the home office, but for most men, their place is in the garage.

A garage is a man’s treasure house. It is full of the things a man loves most. Walls are lined with row after row of tools. Most men know exactly where every tool in their garage is even if they haven’t used it for years. Men also keep shovels, lawn mowers, and a variety of other outdoor equipment for lawn maintenance and family recreation organized somehow in their garage. Most men are always looking for new and better ways to show off the prized possessions that adorn their garage walls and fill their cabinents.

The garage is also the place that holds what for many men is the most prized posession of all: the car. And we all know that men love cars. They love to wash them, detail them, and they certainly love to talk about them. They love to buy new ones and restore old ones, they love to go to car shows and compare their vehicles with the vehicles of others. And the garage is the starting place for all of this. In the garage is where men spend hour after hour working on their cars and making improvements on them. Many sons learn to love cars like their fathers after an afternoon or two spent with dad in the garage.

Many men love to gather in the garage. It is not uncommon for a gathering of many families to end up with the women in the kitchen and the men huddled in the garage. There men share beer, cigars, and stories. They talk about their jobs, they talk about their favorite sports, and they talk about their latest adventures. They encourage in their manly pursuits and catch up on who is doing what to improve their homes, cars, and other posessions. The garage really is a place of friendship for men.

So, the next time your husband or father cannot be found when dinner is on the table, look no further than the garage. It is almost sure that he can be found out there, fixing something you didn’t know was broken or trying to make something he has a little bit bigger, better or faster. Everyone says that dog is a man’s best friend, but I disagree. For many men I know, the garage is his best friend.
