It may only be April, but I can practically taste the anticipation of the festival season in the air…
It’s not only the summer months that bring musical mayhem into our lives. Spring has got a lot in store too, and Brighton’s Love Saves The Day is a pretty good reason to get your wellies and glitter out early.
Hosted in Eastville Park, the two day event blends grime, indie rock and electronica to make for a pretty eclectic line-up. Here’s who we’re excited about seeing:
Everything Everything
Everything Everything have been pumping out experimental, fun art rock since 2007, but it seems like this year is the first time everyone’s stood up and taken notice. Their album ‘Get To Heaven’ took the number 7 spot in the album charts last year, they seem to everywhere this summer and I find it hard to imagine a festival crowd not spilling their beer everywhere when ‘Distant Past’ comes on, when they hit up the main stage on Saturday night.
Stormzy
If you’re sat there thinking who the eff is Stormzy, then you can frankly “shut up”. OK it might not be that cool when I write it, but Stormzy’s emergence as the child of grime definitely hasn’t gone unnoticed across the board. You can catch him warming up for the godfather of grime, Dizzee Rascal, on the mainstage on Sunday night.
Roni Size & Krust
If you’re a fan of old school D&B it doesn’t get much better than legendary Bristolian producer Roni Size and his partner Krust. Head to the Arcadia Afterburner on Saturday night and it’ll feel like 1997 all over again (except for you have a mobile phone now and Live & Kicking doesn’t exist anymore).
Maribou State
Hailing from Hertfordshire, Chris Davids and Liam Ivory are pioneering the way for ambient, British electronic music. This track with Holly Walker, taken from their album Portraits, is an absolute cracker. They’re on the main stage on Saturday:
