Nights Out In Dunfermline, Fife

As befits the ancient capital of Scotland, there are many excellent venues in and near Dunfermline, Fife, in which to sample an evening out; ranging from cosy pubs and restaurants to modern state of the art cinemas and leisure centres.

For the younger person, ‘The Ballroom’, in Dunfermline, just two minutes from the City centre is where it happens for those wanting to sample the ‘club scene’. There is also a wide range of pubs and fast food outlets available nearby, to cater for all tastes and budgets.

For eating out, the Vice-Roy Indian restaurant in Bruce Street provides an excellent venue for those wishing to sample the best of Indian cuisine Their selection of naan breads has to be sampled to be believed, and are arguably the best in Fife. The regular buffet nights are an excellent way to sample a whole range of dishes, and parties are especially welcome.

For those who like traditional beer in a traditional style pub, ‘The Commercial’ just opposite the Dunfermline Crown Post Office is the place in Fife to go, with a very extensive range of traditional and ‘guest’ beers available and a busy and friendly atmosphere prevails there.

If you want to travel a little further, for some out of town eating in what is one of the prettiest places, and a major tourist destination in Fife, there is the ‘Red Lion’ in the nearby village of Culross. The Red Lion is a cosy pub and restaurant with a varied menu and local produce, and plenty of outside seating for those long and warm summer nights by the banks of the river Forth. The ‘sizzling’ steak platter is famous throughout Fife, and lives up to its name, but don’t worry, the Red Lion provides an ‘apron’ for those brave enough to tackle it.

A little nearer to home and just a short taxi ride away, on the Eastern outskirts of Dunfermline there is the aptly named ‘Hideaway Lodge’, with an extensive menu and a well-appointed restaurant, and a selection of rooms for those who want to ‘stay over’ if they have sampled a little too much of the excellent range of whiskies on offer.

For families visiting Dunfermline there is a wide range of facilities at the nearby and recently opened Duloch park complex, just off Junction 3 on the M90. It boasts the biggest multi-screen cinema in Fife, a Bowling Alley, and a Fitness Gym and Leisure centre, supported by a range of modern restaurants. There is ample and well lit free parking for all these facilities.

‘Carnegie Hall’ in East Port, Dunfermline is the venue in Fife for those who enjoy the theatre, and it has hosted a range of famous performers, catering to the tastes of all ages, and not just for performing arts and live music! It now boasts a modern licensed restaurant, serving everything from snacks to a full a la carte menu, and has a conservatory, balcony and beer garden, all with excellent views.

How best to travel to Dunfermline ? By car it is just 5 minutes from Junction 3 of the M90, and for those using public transport to travel, it has a comprehensive bus service and two railway stations, with onward travel to the city centre only taking a few minutes. Welcome to Fife!
