Yes, it’s true; thinking about digging outside in the dirt and watching little seeds grow seems like a long process.
And of course, it involves thinking about investing money and resources into something that may never grow. Still, it’s important to learn the best way to grow your own garden. That’s what the tips below are for.

If you have to lift something heavy you need to lift with your knees. Many people make the mistake of lifting with their back when they are lifting heavy objects. This can lead to a lot of back ache and could even cause extreme damage. You should never lift anything that is extremely heavy without help from someone else.

Grow from seeds. In garden centers, it is usually much cheaper to purchase a packet of seeds than to buy the equivalent number of grown plants. Remember, if you sow some seeds before the summer, you can get a garden full of bright, colorful flowers for a very cheap price.

Keep slugs out of your tender plants. Cut the bottom 2 inches off a plastic soda bottle to make a ‘saucer’. Dig a little hole near to any tender plants and bury the saucer with about 1/4 inch left above ground. Fill it with beer, and leave it overnight The slugs will be attracted to the sugar in the beer and will make their way in, never to get out again!

Choosing colorful perennials for your garden will make a bold statement and will give you much satisfaction throughout the season. Some perennials with interesting foliage are the lungwort, Japanese painted fern, and the hosta. These plants are very attractive and thrive for many months. There are many varieties of perennials to choose from, just go online and search for perennial plants that remain beautiful for many months out of the year.

A great tip to consider in regards to gardening is the fact that you will need to water the trees and bushes you are growing if it is a dry spring. This is usually something that you will not have to worry about but it is important to give them a good moisture base before the long hot summer comes.

Weed the garden often and early. Plan on a weeding schedule for the garden at least three times. The first should be five to seven days after sowing, and again seven to ten days after that. The third time should be three to four weeks after planting, by this time the plants should be rooted well enough to add mulching and sufficient leaves to shade the surface.

Start a journal for your garden. This is an excellent way to keep track of the progress you are making as a gardener. Write down which seeds were successful and what methods you used to encourage growth. You can also take pictures of your plants to include in your book.

Gardening is an unpredictable science. However, your efforts are all worth it when you see your flowers, vegetables, fruits, herbs or whatever else you choose to grow sprouting to life before your eyes. Do something great for yourself and use the tips laid out here to start growing a beautiful garden.
