“What am I doing?
Seeds, cuttings, fertilizer, good soil, dirt….?,” you may be thinking this if you don’t know much about gardening. It is important you know how to garden before trying to tackle your own gardening project. This article will provide you with the information you need, if you want to have the garden of your dreams!

Experiment with different shades of green. Many people think that if they don’t have a lot of flowers, they don’t have enough color in their garden. This couldn’t be further from the truth. A garden is filled with many different shades of green, and it can be argued that it is the most important color in the garden, as it provides the backdrop. Mix warm shades of green with cool shades. Use variegated plants as much as possible. Concentrate on shape and texture, as well as color.

It is very important that you know what kinds of plants can grow in what seasons as well as how long it will take them to sprout properly. This means that you will want to plant the produce a little bit before its actual season so that it will grow correctly.

Disbud your plants. Disbudding is the method of ‘pinching out’ new growth buds to encourage bushier growth and showier flowers. New buds are produced at the leaf axil (where the stem and leaf stalk are attached). By pinching out the top buds, you will encourage the lower buds to grow more freely. This also ensures that the plant has a much longer growing season. Plants that benefit from disbudding include sweet pea, carnation, fuchsia, aster and marigold.

A great tip to remember when gardening is to keep your tools organized. Instead of losing time looking for tools you can spend more time working in your garden. Label drawers and containers and be sure to keep commonly used items together.

Keep slugs out of your tender plants. Cut the bottom 2 inches off a plastic soda bottle to make a ‘saucer’. Dig a little hole near to any tender plants and bury the saucer with about 1/4 inch left above ground. Fill it with beer, and leave it overnight The slugs will be attracted to the sugar in the beer and will make their way in, never to get out again!

Be aware of the type of lighting that you use with the plants in your landscaped garden. Any kind of bright light tends to wash out the cool colors like blue, purple, and green. These kinds of lights are best when used in shaded areas as they will create maximum impact.

Build a compost bin or compost pile by compiling your organic waste. Piles can be great sources for fertilizer, and a great way to get rid of your organic waste. Banana peels, apple cores, and dead fish bones are just some of the essential compounds that can feed your growing garden.

Don’t waste your time and money trying to figure out gardening on your own, make sure you do it right the first time! You should be a little closer to doing this because of the information in this article. It is up to you to be meticulous and try your hardest now!
